	WP 1: Data compilation and issues definition The objective of this work package is to compile all the relevant information which will allow to define the problem (the environmental impact of olive oils and table olives production), its economic and social framework (structure of the sector, economic relevance, etc) , the technological alternatives, the legislative constraints, etc. In addition, and with the aim of achieving a closer look to particular cases, Case Studies will be carried out for the olive mills involved in the project and possibly other ones identified by the associations. Task 1: Sector characterisation The aim in this task is to achieve an overall picture of the olive mill and table olive sectors in the different countries involved in the project (Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal) on the structure of the sector and the current legislation (local, national and European). Task 2: Identification of environmental impacts The different environmental impacts during olive oil and table olives production as solid waste and wastewater generation, water consumption, energy consumption, etc. will be identified. In the definition of the environmental loads during olive oil production, the environmental related norms (ISO norms 14024 and 14031 and the EMAS scheme) and other information sources will be considered. Task 3: Relevant processes and technologies A comprehensive search and classification of the different technologies available for a) olive oil and table olives production, and b) the treatment, disposal or valorisation of the residues generated during olive oil and table olives production in each country will be performed. Their respective implantation, costs, advantages and disadvantages will be researched and compiled. Task 4: Infrastructures During task 4 the RTDs will develop a catalogue of existing infrastructures in the different countries which can deliver technologies or technological solutions for the treatment or valorisation of the different residues addressed. Task 5: Case studies In order to obtain a closer approach to particular situations, the RTDs will carry out Case Studies of certain olive mills and table olives industries. These olive mills and industries will be selected according to the criterion of covering a wide range of possible situations. Deliverables As a result of the work performed in WP 1, the following deliverable items can be accounted for: D1: Comprehensive report on the structure of the olive oil and table olives sectors in Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal, including relevant legislation D2: Report on identified environmental impacts in olive oil and table olives production D3: Comprehensive report on production techniques and technologies D4: Catalogue on existing infrastructures D5: Case Studies
