The
ISE (Istituto Sperimentale per la Elaiotecnica), sponsored by the Italian Ministry
of Agriculture, provides support for the olive oil industry both within and outside Italy.
Its aim is to support the Italian olives and olive oil industry, thanks to more than thirty
years of experience in both chemical and technological aspects. ISE consists of three departments,
an official analysis laboratory and a NMR laboratory. Whereas the Oil Chemistry Department
is focused in the development of methodologies able to define the olive oil quality (in fact,
it played a key role in developing sensory methodologies on virgin olive oil, actually included
in EU regulations), the Elaiotecnica Department is mainly oriented to technological aspects
and interested to the optimisation of the oil extraction systems in relation to the achievement
of both the highest yields and the better oil quality, and the The Table Olive Department is
directed to the identification of olive tree cultivars suitable to be processed as table olives,
to the study and development of innovative processing technologies and to researches on physico-chemical
properties related to the sensory characteristics of processed fruits. The Istituto participates
in research projects with other many Italian and international Centres, Universities, Organisations
and Research Institutions, such as COI and UE.www.politicheagricole.it |

of Agriculture. As the main agricultural research foundation in the country, NAGREF contributes
to the (i) the production of innovative knowledge and technology, (ii) the demonstration of
research results and (iii) dissemination, application and exploitation of research results.
NAGREF comprises more than 25 institutes and research stations, of which two will participate
in INASOOP: the Institute of Technology of Agricultural Products (ITAP) and the Institute of
Olive Tree and Subtropical Plants of Chania (SPOT). Whereas the ITAP focuses on the utilization
and management of agricultural wastes and by-products (including olive oil wastes), SPOT has
more than 30 years experience in the olive sector, and even has at its disposal an experimental
olive oil factory with the three systems existing nowadays.www.nagref.gr |
